Permissions and Roles

Permissions and Roles play a huge part of how users can interact with Jira. Power Retro extensively uses this feature to let the users fine-tune their experience.

Roles

There are 2 types of Roles in Jira:

  • global roles - determine what a user can do across the Jira platform (Site administrator, Guest, Jira user, etc.)

  • project roles - are given to users that are part of a project and are only active within that project (Project administrator, Developer, Q&A Tester, etc.)

Roles in Power Retro are only active during a Retrospective event. These Roles are similar to the Jira roles: they determine what a user can or can not interact with during the Retro.

Permissions

Permissions are a special set of rules which can alter certain Jira roles. When installing Power Retro the application also creates its own Global and Project permissions.
